blue skies

i'm beginning to wonder if we can make it to spring with only 2 days of snow. we'll probably have a blizzard since i said that.
the coastline

rocky shores and crashing waves.
i think that large cement structure in the first photo is a gun turret from world war I or II.. anyone know for sure? i couldn't find anything online about it other than 1 solitary photo that was called "gun turret." it's in Montauk, NY at the lighthouse.

what we find in the sea

a view of the ocean from the edge of a 50ft bluff. a short hike in a thick maritime forest. the warm sun on our
winter-coat-covered shoulders. and harbor seals that swam south for the winter.
(p.s. I completely redid my blog design.. if you're in google reader or reading by e-mail you can check it out here:www.alostfeather.blogspot.com )

hello winter
1.23.2012
I think winter is here. I spent the weekend out in Montauk with 3 of my best friends and we woke up to a blizzard on Saturday morning. I guess a more accurate statement would be that I woke up to a blizzard on Saturday morning and then ran around happily announcing that there was a blizzard outside. I think the weather knew we were getting together and wanted to remind us of our college days up in Rochester, NY.. one of the snowiest cities in the country.
We only ventured outside to pick up some groceries, winter hats, and to take silly pictures down by the ocean. Then we bundled up and watched some movies and played trivia games. Yes, definitely reminiscent of our college experience.

Blizzard, blizzard, blizzard...

So much snow. This winter has been so snowy! I hear there's another blizzard on the way, too. Oh well, at least it was a sunny weekend and Boo loves playing in the snow.
On Saturday I took the train into Brooklyn to check out some vintage shopping on Bedford St. with my cousin, Kate. Brooklyn is really hard to navigate, at least I think so. Some roads go through and some turn into dead ends then start somewhere else. That said, we got lots of exercise!
Today was a little bit of a lazy Sunday. I did get to photograph a few new items that I've been working on, but I also watched a little too much tv! Oh, I also shoveled out my car (finally) so that was great, but I think it will be snowed in, in a few days anyway. Maybe I can gather up some people to help me build a new igloo. Yes, I'm obsessed.
Hope you had a great weekend, too!

Week 1/52: Under the Starry Sky
1.20.2011
And so it begins.. a new attempt at completing a 52 Weeks Self Portrait Project.
It was actually fairly warm inside the igloo, but I kept getting snow in my hair which was not warm at all. As I was shooting this I was thinking about what I might want to do for next week. How am I supposed to beat an igloo that can comfortably fit 3 people? Hmm...
A house built of snow

A little afternoon trip planning and playing in the igloo I built... I love when my sister is home!
It took 3 days to build this igloo and about 2 hours for the weather to demolish it. I don't really know why I decided to build it, but I did and I'm fairy certain that my neighbors think I've completely lost it.
At least the igloo got some use before it's demise. Marissa came home for the weekend and we got to spend some time playing inside and catching up. She lives in Philly now for Med School. I love when she comes home because I can make her do things like hang out in an igloo with me.. I also miss her so very much when she's away.
