Artwork: Blog Banners

3.25.2011

This week 2 of the blog banners I helped design / designed went live! Alexi, from Yellow on the Hill, and Bailey, from Vanilla Blonde, were my first two clients and they were both so great to work with.

I've mentioned Alexi on this blog before, she's one of my best friends. She asked me to do a whimsical line drawing of her adorable yellow house for her blog banner.

I drew the house and she added color and texture and designed the rest of her banner. We make a great team.. We're actually working on a project together right now that will make its debut in the coming months. I'm pretty excited for it!

Alexi and her husband, Dave just got married in September (I was her maid of honor!) In her blog, she writes about their adventures and a bit about how their relationship came to be.. she also documented their honeymoon to Hawaii which looks unbelievable.

I met Bailey shortly after I started this blog. She's from South Africa and is really sweet, driven and is always doing something amazing. In her blog, she writes about and shows us the exciting events she attends and her fun excursions with friends and family.

I feel like I really got to know Baily through her blog and our comments and e-mail exchanges. Her personality really shines through the screen which helped me understand what kind of banner she might like.

After outlining some design details, I did a portrait sketch for her in pencil and scanned that in to add some color. Along with the portrait you'll see a fancy frame around the title of her blog, Vanilla Blonde.

I loved designing this banner and was so happy that Bailey was interested in a portrait sketch. They're so fun to draw and I love the element of a hand drawn design mixed into a computer graphic.

Bailey also just posted a little Q&A with me this morning. Hop on over to check it out! Yay!
