Pretty Little Rule Breakers

5.27.2011

We broke the rules! ooooo. Come ON Long Island.. it is a little ridiculous to ban dogs from our beaches.. it's not even Memorial Day yet.. I understand "no dogs" in the summer, but in the off season? That's ok. I told Matt we weren't really breaking the rules because Boo isn't a dog.. he's a Boo.

Matt had the day off yesterday because he was in a golf tournament in the morning. (Fact: boyfriend loves. LOVES. loves. golf. and he's pretty darn amazing at it.) That means Boo and I got to play with him all afternoon, (after the tournament) so we drove down to the beach for a little frolicking in the sand.

Boo loves the beach, but now I think I need to keep his leash on because I didn't know he loved the water so much. I was afraid he was going to take off swimming and he has really short legs.. no match for ocean waves! Silly man.

^in response to the photo above: hahahaha.. hahahahaha.. HA

It was super foggy down by the water, but it was still about 73 degrees so it was pretty amazing. I love Matt's days off (and so does Boo.)

After the beach and some Chipotle for lunch I hopped on the train to meet some friends in the city for dinner. I didn't feel like taking the subway or a cab, so I walked to the restaurant. Great idea in theory, but I forgot that meant I had to walk through Times Square. What a nightmare!!! Oh my goodness. With the warmer weather comes the crowds.. It is stressful to plow through them in Times Square. It was easier walking the opposite way.. after the $5 Hurricanes with dinner and my friend Alex leading the way (she works in the middle of the madness, so she's a pro.)

I love the city, but crowds make me anxious. My family and I went to Italy 5 years ago and we just happened to be at the Vatican at the exact moment that the Pope decided to address the people from his window.. pretty awesome! Except it meant that the entire square filled to the brim with people and it was already 103 degrees and I was freaking out. My sister had to remind me to breathe. Massive crowds= booooooo... and not my dog!

Luckily, most of Manhattan isn't like Times Square. It's just normal amounts of crowded.. not "I can't get through this wall of people" crowded.

Phew. I made it. It's kind of funny that the first part of my day was spent at an almost completely desolate beach and the last part was spent in the middle of Manhattan. Life is funny, I love it.

Happy Friday!

  1. Omg!! so cute pictures, I'm happy that you decided to break the rules and go to the beach for a walk.
And yeah, it doesn't make any sense that in out of summer you can't go there with dogs.

I´m scared of massive crowds too!! I imagine that moment in Rome and the hot weather... crazy!

    Have a nice weekend Sarah!
    Hugs.

  5. Awww poor little Boo! Doesn't look like he knew what he got himself into ;) Those kinds of days are my favorite. Daytime spent quietly doing things you love in peace...and then partying it up at night! Perfect balance if you ask me.

  7. Hahahaha he is a Boo :)

and that sounds like fun!! Other than the super crowded part :( I get like that too...that's why I'm not a big city person. It's definitely nice to visit but I couldn't live somewhere that never sleeps....golly sleep = <3 lol

  8. Wow I'm lovin' the new blog look!

Aw Boo is so cute in the water.
That's so cool that you got to walk through Time Square, but I guess it would be annoying if you kept having to walk through all the crowds just to get to your destination haha. Love the pics you took while you were there!

    :)

  9. Haha you went from one extreme to the other! Good on you, we break the rules with Dasher too and take her to the beach sometimes. Dogs loooove it (oh and Boo is adorable).
And you don't realise how lucky you are just to be able to casually walk through times square. Sigh, one day I will too!

  11. Everything about this post is adorable and hilarious. I love that first photo, especially. It looks like it was lovely out! It was a record low temperature here today, so I'll be jealous through your computer screen. Also, what I see of your clothes looks adorable!

  12. Oh, your pooch is a rulebreaker! So cute! What kind of dog is Boo? I love his height.

I usually don't mind crowds but I get paranoid about pick pockets and with my height, when the crowd gets too thick, I can hardly breathe! :)

  16. I love that pic of the footprints :D It's very hallmark! <3

And I say if they'd allow a vehicle on the beach, then a dog should ALSO be allowed on the beach :P But that's just me!

I'm really loving your new header and your drawings, you're so good at it! I love that last photo. It would be so great to able to walk through those crowds under those cool bright lights.

  26. Awww Boo is so adorable!! I hate giant crowds too. I love getting lost in a sea of people just not enormous walls of people. It's why I avoid touristy places when I travel (also, because I think there's more to a city than like, a statue). Have a great Memorial Day :)

  27. Rebel! Haha. I would probably do the same thing. But my dog prob would get crazy and then he would refuse to keep walking (lazy boy!).

I can't believe you know who that guy from the amazing race is. When they participated the first time my sister was so sad when they lost because she knew the effort he put on remembering all the places there went during the race. She felt empathy. I just told her you know him from uni (she got a bit excited haha).

I want to go to the beach for some nice photos and walking but it is just so freakin cold these days (at least here in Australia it is) that I just stay around the city near the heaters.

  28. hahah ughhhh crowds in Time Square make me cry. Especially in the summer when it's 1,000 degrees and there's tourists in floral Hawaiian shirts taking pictures of signs and the stupid cowboy guy haha. These are such cute pictures. I love your doggy awwww. I just got your tweet and thought it was so amusing that we were practically hiking in the same place haha.

  29. Boo is so so cute :D Love all of your pretty pictures. I've never been to New York--or to the east coast, for that matter. LA is much more spread out than New York and Seattle isn't nearly as big. I can imagine the crowds might be crazy.

  31. First thing, I love NY. I mean, I haven't actually been to NY but it's my dream to go to NY. :) And I'm absolutely envious of people living or visiting NY. Ah, I'm saving up to visit NY sometime. Someday, that'll be! :)

But I'm just like you, I always try to avoid huge crowds! It's so stuffy - I prefer roaming almost empty streets and having the place to myself. Haha.

And Boo is adorable! Love the photo of his paw prints in the sand. :) Sounded like an amazing day out at the beach. Glad you had a fun day out!

Can't believe it's my first time visiting your blog - I'm absolutely missing out on such a beautiful outlet! x

  32. Cute BOO! Awww I want to take my puppy to the beach! And I have also taken her places where she isn't allowed...like Walmart in a dog purse...and we got kicked out haha.
