Film from the Beach

4.12.2011

I shot this roll at the end of the summer last year. I hadn't used my Canon T70 in years and there was already a roll of film loaded. It was extremely expired which I think added to the interesting color quality of these photographs, but I hope I get these colors when I use a new roll of film, too!

I'm of the belief that an artist should not admit to the mistakes they make in their work. You make a mistake, it turns out amazing.. go with it! Stand up for yourself. It's important to be confident in your work.. or feign confidence until it comes. That's one way you'll grow as an artist!

That said, I think it's ok to admit to this particulour mistake because it's funny. I hadn't shot film in years. (Don't tell my photography professors, ok?) I had the hardest time remembering what I was doing and then after I shot the last exposure I opened the camera without making sure the film was wound. The very last exposure was completely ruined, but this second to last one came out pretty great! I love the light leaks and crazy colors. Best part? Now I know how to recreate this "mistake."

  4. In a world full of perfectionism, I enjoy shooting film because of its imperfections. It is nice to let go and just take pictures.

  12. I started chuckling when I read that you opened the back up without making sure the film was completely wound. Actually, my very first roll in high school didn't have anything on it because I didn't load it properly. Womp womp. Now, I'm studying photography, hahah.

That's like my mistake with a double exposure. I just forgot to advance the film, but hey, it looks great ^_^

  15. Haha, woops. Oh well, it looks awesome anyway. I opened the back of a camera and the roll just fell out onto the ground. I had tried so hard to take cool double exposures and stuff...it was quite the bummer.
