i'm beginning to wonder if we can make it to spring with only 2 days of snow. we'll probably have a blizzard since i said that.
the walk to the beach
1.20.2012
Mel and I walked to the beach almost everyday while we were visiting her parents in Florida. It's about a 10 minute walk from their front door under a canopy of live oaks and Spanish moss. We would stroll down to the water with our towels, sunglasses and books and read and walk around looking for shells. I usually can't go to the beach and just hang out.. I get bored, but this was different. Maybe because it was 70 degrees instead of 100 and there were tons of different kinds of birds to watch and photograph. We got to know the birds pretty well and we would go back to the house with descriptions of seagull-like birds for Mel's dad to identify for us.
I could definitely get used to life on Amelia Island. Now if I could just convince everyone I love to move there with me.. that would be perfect.

to the beach

It's been a nice few days in sunny Florida. Oh, yes it has. I don't mind the 70 degree weather or the swaying palm trees, the balmy-sweet smelling air or the sand in my shoes. I don't even mind the slight sunburn I acquired yesterday afternoon.
I especially don't mind spending all this time with Mel and her family.
Florida has a very specific smell. It brings back memories of family vacations. Trips to Disney World and Epcot Center. Riding Space Mountain and crying on Splash Mountain. Watching the parades in Magic Kingdom and going to dinner at that restaurant that spins ever so slowly.
It's amazing how strongly a scent can recall a memory, isn't it?
the atlantic in december

Driving to the beach with the windows down in late December was pretty strange, but I'm not complaining.
Boo loves running on the sand and Marissa and I were enjoying the warm sun without our winter coats. It is winter now, isn't it? I don't think New York knows that. Please don't tell it. I can deal with trips to the beach mere days before Christmas in 60 degree weather.

Sunday November 6, 2011
Montauk, NY
On Sunday the wind was in our hair, the sea breeze was cold on our cheeks, the sun was bright in our eyes, and the calm waves filled our hearts.
Another spot full of memories. Another wonderful day ended with another wonderful sunset.

the atlantic in november

Today Boo and I went to the beach. The air was cold, but the sun was warm and bright. We crossed draw bridges, played fetch, and laid in the sand. When my body adjusted to the crisp air I took my shoes off and ran through the surf. Boo followed, of course.
The Atlantic is not frozen in November. It still holds the warmth from the summer.
The pavement in the parking lot on the other hand- that was cold on my bare feet.

Afternoon at the Beach
7.20.2011
Marissa and I decided to take a break yesterday and drive down to the water. One of the perks of living on Long Island is that you are never more than 10 miles from the beach. This is a great thing for me because I am not the kind of person that can sit on the sand for more than an hour at a time. I get restless, but I do like the idea of lounging on the beach.
I started re-reading the Harry Potter series the other night and continued at the beach. It is so good. J.K. Rowling is a genius. I'm pretty sure I had dreams about being at Hogwarts last night. I suppose the dreams were also a result of seeing the last movie, which we saw last night. I'm so sad that it's over. I'll just keep re-reading the books and watching the movies forever. When I have kids they are also going to be obsessed with Harry or we will have a problem.
You hear that future children? You will love Harry Potter. And Winnie the Pooh for that matter.

2 Years
7.18.2011
Early morning 2 hour drive out east. Sag Harbor. Breakfast in a tiny café. Ferry boat ride to Shelter Island. Iced tea in the gazebo. Hiking in the preserve. Osprey. Lobster rolls and crab cakes for dinner. Picnic bench overlooking the harbor. Westhampton. Driving down Dune Rd. Walking on the beach. Playing in the surf. Sunset over the inlet. Driving home in the dark.
Perfect way to celebrate 2 years together. <3
(minus the moment that I tried to swat away a giant bug and ended up smacking Matt in the arm with my camera. sorrrryyyy.)
