montauk

7.29.2013

In the past few years Montauk has transformed from a quiet fishing/ family town into a more popular spot among young people looking for a party (at least during the summer.) I'm a young person and I love a good party, but I also miss the tranquility of old Montauk. When it comes down to it, I'm ok with the changes, especially since I have an interest in seeing the local businesses do well and they certainly are, given the abundance of weekenders.

Complete solace can still be found out east if you're willing to trek a little farther down the beach, rise with the sun, or head out for an adventure on a gloomy day. I'm always willing.

I just got back from a great visit with my best friend and her family.. including their newest addition.. a 9 day old baby girl! She is the sweetest tiny human. I loved getting to know her and I can't wait until she can wear all the adorable outfits she has waiting for her in her closet!
By the way.. I have a new appreciation for newborn photographers. Must be an awesome job.. but sooo difficult!

Matthew and I had a lovely weekend up in Rhode Island. We went exploring along the coast line, ate ice cream for dinner and soaked up as much sunshine as we could. I love adventures, but more than that- I love weekends with this guy.

We found Moonrise Kingdom (in Rhode Island) back in January. Matt and I are heading back up there tomorrow afternoon for my birthday weekend adventure. We have a lot of exploring to do!

Montauk in September

11.13.2012

Montauk in September. We were out on the end of the island for our friends' beautiful wedding back in September. The whole weekend was filled with happiness and love (except maybe the 45 minutes we spent driving around town looking for a white shirt because someone packed a blue shirt and needed a white shirt to match the rest of the wedding party!) Actually, looking back, that part was pretty funny.

Thank you all for thinking of my family and I during the Hurricane and it's aftermath. We finally got our power back last night and now that the temperature has reached a livable level we can return home.

I went jogging through my town yesterday and was heartbroken to see the amount of devastation on each and every street. I passed huge trees laying on houses, on cars, across roads, and this 2 full weeks after Sandy hit. The most terrifying sight was that of a vacant lot where a house stood before the storm. A falling tree hit a gas line causing the house to explode. There's nothing left. Luckily, one of our neighbors (who was also a first responder in Manhattan on September 11th) was able to get into the house and save the man who lived there. God bless him.

Hurricane Sandy hit Long Island on Monday, October 29th. Today is Friday, November 9th and we are still without power. 2 nights ago a Nor'Easter brought snow and freezing temperatures. On Tuesday I waited on a line for 3 hours to get gas for my car. This morning New York started gas rationing. I feel like I'm living in some strange alternate reality.
