Poor Boo *Update*

4.14.2011

Update! We just got back from the Vet and it took a little while, but she figured out that he hurt his sternum. It's most likely just a bad bruise, but it's definitely not his back or leg. He was acting a lot more perky at the Vet, I think mostly because he wanted to get the heck out of there. I'm so glad he's alright. He scared the heck out of me.

Thanks everyone, for leaving such nice comments and for wishing him well! What a day it's been so far!

------
I'm so upset right now. Boo got hurt last night when he jumped off the couch and fell pretty hard when he landed. I don't know if it's his leg that he hurt or his back. I'm hoping it is not his back, but I just don't know.

He slept alright last night and he can walk, but very slowly. He takes tiny steps and walks with his head down. When I took him out for a walk this morning he saw another dog and got excited (as usual) so he barked and then whimpered and held his leg up. (but he continued to growl under his breath at the passing dog, so I'm thinking that's a good sign- still his little punk self.) He also gobbled up his breakfast- another good sign.

I feel awful. I have to wait until our 2pm Dr. appointment and I don't know what to do with myself, so I figured I'd write this post while he rests here next to me.

Anyone else ever have an injured pet? It's heartbreaking.. he can't even tell me what hurts him. I really hope the Dr. just has to wrap his arm in a nice blue bandage and that's it.

Isn't he the sweetest? I love him. Please be ok, Boo.

  2. Oh poor pup! I know how you feel! Our doggie gave us a real scare last week, but she's slowly bouncing back! I hope your little furry kiddo will do the same :)

  3. I grew up with dachshunds and poor, poor "brandi-girl" hurt her back (we didn't even see it happen) and woke up paralysed one day. Talk about devastated! She had to live in the very large kitchen after that-dragging her hind end around the smooth floor. She was happy but it was heartbreaking to see.
I hope your baby is okay!

  4. :( Poor Boo. I know how you feel. Once my little puppy got into a bit of mischief and well we thought he was going to lose his little paw. All we could do was sit and wait and hope the swelling went down. Luckily it did but that was the worst 24 hours of my life. Don't worry I'm sure Boo will make a swift recovery!

  5. Omg I'm so sorry Boo! I would be just as heartbroken. I also have 2 mini dachshunds... one of them will fly off the couch and our bed and I'm always worried about her breaking something! Plus doxies are prone to have back problems. I try to help them down whenever I can. I'll hope for the best- feel better Boo!

  7. we just had to take 2 of our dogs to the vet... it's awful. they can't tell you what's wrong, all they can do is look at you lie "mom, am i going to be ok?" truly heartbreaking...then the vet hits you with a ridiculous bill, but you pay it cuz it's your pooch that you love dearly...i hope everything is okay (it will be!)

  8. Awww...poor Boo (By the way--love the name, maybe because I love Boo Radley so much:D) Hope he gets well quick! Poor animals...when their hurt, their eyes look so big and pitiful, just makes my heart hurt looking at them:'(

  9. Sweet boy. :( During the freeze we had in February, I dealt with an injured Daphne. She hopped off the couch then rolled over onto her back screaming and rolling in pain. :( I have never had to deal with that and it was heartbreaking! Hers was just arthritis. Praying for your peace and Boo's pain today! Hope he gets to feeling better soon!

  11. such a sweet guy - hope he is okay!

  12. I'm sure the little guy will be fine. Maybe he'll need a ramp by the couch in the future to keep him from jumping.

Scooter seems to injure himself once a year. The worse was when he scratched his cornea. (I think he was digging in the dirt and then rubbed his eye)

  13. He is seriously the cutest and makes me want a dog so bad! (as if I didn't want one bad enough haha) My old dog Pixie was always limping (not always, but frequent enough to remember) and it was really just because of the type of breed she was (maltese), they have bad hips. So maybe it's something like that?? I hope he's ok!! Let us all know when you find out!! GOod luck!

  21. I'm so glad it's not serious! yay for boo! but, you will NOT believe this- this evening my dog Sam was whining like crazy like would not stop crying and freaking out and so we rushed him to the emergency vet- turns out he has some serious back issues and he will be down for 4-6 weeks while the discs in his spine heal :'( i'm so sad... i hate seeing him in so much pain, it was absolutely awful. Isn't that weird that happened the same day I read your post?

i'm really glad boo is ok though!

  22. He is such a cutie! My old dog ( an Australian Shepherd) blew out her knee while chasing a ball and had to go through full knee replacement surgery. That was so hard seeing her drugged up and in pain. She ended up healing fine, but it was a horrible experience since my pets are pretty much like my children. Hope Boo gets better quickly!

  23. Poor thing! I'm glad he's okay!

So many bloggers have cute dogs (including yours!) and everytime I see them it makes me want a new puppy even more! And everyyyyyone in Austin has a dog, so I feel left out!
They're not allowed at the apartment I live in, and my mom hates pets so she wouldn't let me keep one there >:(
So I basically have to wait until I graduate college and get my own place! I'm so impatient, I want one now.... hehe

    :)

  25. Awwwwwww. he looks so sad in those pics. i just want to give him a big cuddle. I hope he gets better! I always wince when I see people walking dogs that have one paw off the ground...it usually means something is wrong but sometimes people don't take their pet's injuries seriously. By the way, I love long-haired dachshunds. You have my dream dog!!! I can't wait until I move into an apartment that allows pets so I can get one.

Also, yeah a post on tips for taking photos on manual mode would be awesome. And, YES. I got it right! I knew they were bison! :p
