Make New Friends, but Keep the Old

4.13.2011

One is silver and the others gold. A circles round, but never ends, that's how long I want to be your friend.

Sorry, is that in your head now, too? Was anyone else a girl scout?

I can't wait for April 23rd! A little reunion with these amazzzing ladies.. all of them.. Caitlin?? I can't even think of the last time we were all in one place at one time. My gosh, I'm so excited I could cry and also.. I miss college.

My friend, Mel, and I were talking for a good hour last night and we came to the conclusion that we desperately miss college, but not class. I mean, class was great.. we had to learrrrn, but everything outside of class was awesomeness. Having your friends all under 1 roof (or on one campus)? Amazing. Events (read: parties) every weekend? Amazing. Someone home to hang out with all the time? Amazing.

As I was writing this post (just a post about my excitement, really) I started thinking about the other girls in my life that make me happy. I thought about how when I graduated from high school I was devastated to leave my girlfriends from home. I thought I would never make new friends a plane flight away in college.

I missed my high school friends so much, but slowly I made new friends and by the time college came to a close I was heartbroken to leave my new (now old) friends. I was again terrified that I would be alone in the next chapter in my life.

Alone I was not. I met my dear friend Alexi on my first day of work when fate put our cubicles across from each other.

I really like the idea that we go through life constantly picking up friends along the way. It's a comforting thought. Lately, I've been meeting a lot of wonderful people through this blog, and it makes me so happy.

I used to sing that song in girl scouts because it was fun to sing (and the scout leaders made us sing it).. now it holds so much more meaning and I think it's quite a beautiful little jingle.

  2. It's fun how life seems to throw new people your way. Especially when you least expect it.
Although, I have found that it has gotten a bit more difficult meeting people when working for yourself.

I hope your reunion is everything you want it to be!

I see you only just recently started blogging this year, me too! I literally began my blog 2 weeks ago haha. It seems like you gained an audience fairly quick; do you have any advice for us beginners on how to reach more readers?

Also, I love your 100 things idea. I've seen some other bucket-list approach ideas but 100 ?? wow! You've inspired me to make a list as well! So far I've thought of 65 things I'd like to do haha it's challenging!

I look forward to reading more :D

  14. Awww this post made my want to tear up a little :'( but I'm at work so I must hold them back! I left all of my high school friends when I decided to go to school 2,000 miles away. Sadly, I did not easily make friends as I expected when I went to college. Now I meet most of my friends through work. Those are sometimes bitter sweet because once you stop working together the friendship is tested and more often than not you don't stay in touch. I've learned friendship takes a lot of effort from both people in order for it to grow. Friends come and go, some are real and some are fake, but you will always know they were a true friend when 6 months or a year goes by and you can just pick up where you left off :)

  15. Yes! I was a girl scout and remember singing that song. And the three fingers put up to make everyone be quiet, ha. Love my friends, love that I've made new ones in the blogging world too!

  21. I was a girl scout, too!! Woop woop! I often find myself singing this song (does that make me lame!)I think we are lucky to have friends come and go, it teaches us to be strong and open to meeting new people! xo =)

  23. I totally had to sing that song all the time in Girl Scouts! My college experience has been really different because I didn't move away but I still lost a ton of friends that could totally still be in contact with me but just don't want to. But I love the idea, too, that you can constantly pick up more friends while the others stay with you. (:
