Go Take a Hike

4.19.2011

This is what I'd rather be doing today, but I have a ton of orders to fill, the trails are probably still muddy from the melting winter and April showers, and rain is in the forecast for this afternoon. There's also the issue of everyone being in their respective offices until 5pm because it's a Tuesday.

I don't know if I'd like to go hiking on my own. Have you done it??

I usually only see men hiking alone.. I can't remember ever seeing a woman, but once Matt and I saw an extremely pregnant woman trail running. Trail running! It's great exercise and kind of fun, but I always slow down for the particularly rocky parts because I know I would twist an ankle and go crashing down onto the jagged edges of the rocks. This woman was fearless (or crazy?) and was running over a stretch of trail that was so jagged it made me so nervous to watch her. How could she even see where she was stepping with the baby bump in the way?! Luckily, (for my nerves) she was passing us traveling in the opposite direction and she was running with someone else, but still.

Ok, back to work. Hope you all are having a good Tuesday!

  4. Hiking is a lot of fun but I don't think I would ever go by myself. My sister and I went hiking recently and a rattlesnake crossed our path. My sister hadn't seen it and almost stepped on it! It made me wonder what we would've done if she had been bitten, we were really far up on the trail alone!

and that is one crazy pregnant lady!

  6. Oh how I wish I was out of work playing anywhere nice, warm, and sunny! Instead I am stuck inside at work with no windows...I guess that can allow me to appreciate the dark and gloomy day!

  7. Trail running always scares me, I'm sure I'd fall over :P I've never been properly hiking by myself but I always go on long walks, so I'm sure it'd be great to clamber up some mountains by yourself :) xx

  8. I think in terms of safety, it is important to have a hiking buddy. In the least, let someone know where you are. I think the movie, 127 hours perfectly demonstrates that.

  9. I love hiking! it's been raining by me for so long now ugh. Can't wait to go this year though when the weather gets nicer. I would also like to try hiking in the fall when the trees are changing colors. I usually only go in the summer. I'd be afraid to go alone though haha. I have no sense of direction and would surely never return.

  11. I've been hiking a couple times me thinks (arrrr), once in Idaho and another time in England, but it wasn't anything like what you do! I need to do some REAL hiking!

And a pregnant woman running? Wow, that makes me feel super lazy for not exorcising hahaha.

Summer is almost here, so hopefully you'll get to hike again soon!!

    :)

  12. Wish I could just take a hike sometimes - but where I am from (Denmark) the country is about as flat as a pancake, so gets kinda dull. We do walk in the woods a lot though ;O)

  13. I trail run by myself lol...my brothers tell me it's unwise but I haven't been featured on Dateline yet! Haha and I would give it a go, Sarah.

Maybe somewhere you're really familiar with though since you normally don't go alone. And ahh! can I say how lovely that looks out there? PA is horrible and rainy right now :( those May flowers better bloom like a begonia with all of this lol!!

  14. Oh my. I don't run. I jog. I don't hike. I fall. I pray I don't get pregnant and find myself with a need to run across a rocky trail. It would be a disaster. Pregnant or not, really. She was clearly out of her mind or being chased by bears. I will go with bears.

  15. Hiking is so much fun but tiring...hehehe...that last major hike I did was in the mountains of Yosemite National Park...yeah boyfriend and I had to survice on some coke since we chugged the water down our thirsty throats and were left with Coca Cola...who takes soft drinks for a hike! LOL...hiking is certainly an adventure! =)

  18. Hiking on your own isn't really a good thing purely for possible falls or injuries... Safety reasons too!
You're really inspiring me to start hiking!
Much love, Bailey from Vanilla Blonde

  21. Ohhhhhh I don't know! Thatd make me totally nervous, going alone. Probably because that's when I'd do something stupid and fall/break a leg. But good for you even considering wanting to go hiking. That's always like #234 on my list of things to do during my free time! :) xoxo
